1 – Compile a list of questions regarding your loan programIf you find that you do not thoroughly understand the pros and cons of all the various financing options, make sure you have a list of questions with you. 2 – Determine when you want to lockBy locking in the interest rate, the mortgage lender is committing to the mortgage interest rates for the loan – usually at the time the loan application is received. By floating the rate, you can lock the rate anytime between application and at the time of closing. Those who elect to float conclude that interest rates will fall in the near future. 3 – Decide if you want to pay additional points to lower your interest rateTypically you can opt to pay additional points to lower the interest rate of your loan.
